Toveko helps Hofors Energi with purification of raw water for the heating plant

Customer: Hofors Energy

About the customer

Hofors municipality is located in the western part of Gästrikland. Hofors has around 13,000 inhabitants. Most families have a member who is directly or indirectly dependent on the local industry, Ovako. Within the Ovako industrial area, the municipality has built its heating plant. The heating plant mainly uses wood chips/shavings as fuel. However, excess heat from the industry is also reused.

Current status

The heating plant also produces steam which is sold to industry for use in various applications. The production of this steam requires clean water. If dirty water is used, it would disrupt the steam production process. The raw water for steam production is taken from a nearby river. This contains a large amount of humus. To make this water usable for steam production, a treatment plant has been installed.

Results

The treatment plant mainly consists of a Toveko CX filter size S-450. 15-20 ml/m3 polyaluminium chloride is added to the incoming water to the filter. A short residence time for flocculation takes place in a vessel before the Toveko CX filter. Visual inspection of the water and analyses of aluminium residues monitor the quality of the purified water. Residual aluminium normally varies between 0.1 – 0.2 mg/l. An S-450 filter is used in this plant. The flow varies between 15 – 25 m3/hr.
