Purification of water containing oil
Just outside London, Esso has a storage and transshipment facility for oil products. The handling of oil products often causes oil spills. Trucks are also washed within the same handling area. All process water and rainwater from the area is collected in a lagoon. In this, a liquid skimmer is used to scrape off the top layer of oil. Before the installation of the Toveko filter, the collected water was directed to the municipal sewage plant.
The existing treatment system consists of sedimentation in a lagoon and an oil skimmer. It has now been supplemented with a Toveko filter. No chemicals whatsoever are added. It is a completely mechanical filtration plant. In this facility, an S-150 filter is used. The facility is designed for approx. 10 m3/h.
Input and output values have been recorded during an intensive, one-month measurement period. The results from this can be found in the appendices. Levels of oil, SS, BOD, COD and pH have been investigated. The authority's requirement for emissions from this facility is that oil must be < good margin
