The CAREX (CX) sand filter from Toveko, which works continuously with a moving sand bed, is a compact unit with many advantages, both in terms of function and installation. This means a low investment cost.
The grains of sand are rubbed against each other and the released dirt is washed away with the help of washing water. By moving the sand washing back and forth over the entire longitudinal direction of the filter, the cleaned sand is distributed evenly and a flat surface is obtained.
Thus, the entire filter bed participates in the filtration process and so-called dead zones do not occur.
Because the Toveko CX filter is built rectangular across, it is easy to install in a minimum of space. The low height means that the energy consumption of the feed pumps will be lower. Often the filter can be operated with gravimetric flow, ie. completely without feed pumps.
The Toveko CX filter is designed to handle both continuous high loads and occasional peak loads. The mechanical cleaning of the sand is very efficient and the sand turnover is automatically adjusted to keep the pressure drop across the filter constant.
The smooth surface of the sand bed provides stable filtration with a reduced risk of short-circuiting. The clean sand that is returned is leveled so that the filter resistance is equal over the entire filter surface.
Toveko CX filter also works effectively at low flows. The location of the mammoth pump means that heavy particles do not burden the filter because these are pumped up to the wash directly from the bottom of the shaft.
The incoming water is led into an inlet shaft and distributed evenly throughout the sand bed. During the water's path up through the sand bed, solid impurities are separated from the water. The contaminated sand is continuously pumped up with a mammoth pump from the bottom of the filter to a sand washer that is placed above the filter. The sand washer consists of an inclined transport screw placed in a seat in which the sand grains are slowly rubbed against each other while rinsing water is added. From the sand washer, the cleaned sand is returned evenly over the filter surface.
The dirt and water from washing is diverted for possible further treatment or disposal. The filter is equipped with automatic control of sand collection and sand washing. The filtration speed and washing water consumption in Toveko CX filters depends on the pollution characteristics of the incoming water but can vary between 5-15 m³/m²/h and 2-7% of the total flow respectively. Some waters can be purified without the addition of additional washing water.
